SUMMARY:Rothko and Mozart: The Balance of Emotion and Form
DESCRIPTION:Image: Andrej Grilc & Miro Taradi\n \nMarch 19 | 6:30 PM | At the Rothko Chapel in Houston, TX\nTICKETS AVAILABLE HERE\n \nJoin us for an intimate celebration of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolfgang_Amadeus_Mozart )’s 270th birthday at the Rothko Chapel. ( https://rothkochapel.org/visit/visitor-info/ ) This special recital, presented in partnership with the International Mozarteum Foundation, ( https://mozarteum.at/en/home ) and the Rothko Chapel brings together music and history in a unique encounter: Violinist Olivia De Prato will perform on Mozart’s original 1764 violin ( https://tarisio.com/cozio-archive/property/?ID=43174 ), accompanied by pianist Mia Elezovic. The program reflects the profound connection between Mozart’s music and the painter Mark Rothko ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Rothko ), whose works were often inspired by the composer’s balance of emotion and formal clarity.\n\nAbout the Event\nMark Rothko regarded Mozart as an ideal of artistic balance: Able to convey the deepest human emotions within rigorous structural clarity. His admiration for Mozart’s ability to be tragic without sentimentality and spiritual without dogma resonates in this recital. Audiences will experience the rare privilege of hearing a historic instrument once played by Mozart himself, in a program designed to illuminate the intersection of music, history, and the visual arts. This performance coincides with the opening of a major Mozart exhibition at the Morgan Library & Museum in New York ( https://www.themorgan.org/exhibitions/mozart ) and is made possible thanks to the support of the Austrian Cultural Forum New York and the International Mozarteum Foundation, who provide both the artists and the instrument for this extraordinary occasion.\n\nAbout the Artists\n\nOlivia De Prato – Violin: A distinguished violinist, De Prato performs internationally on historic and modern instruments, bringing a profound sensitivity to both classical and contemporary repertoire.\n\nMia Elezovic – Piano: Known for her refined technique and expressive depth, Elezovic has appeared in major concert halls worldwide, combining virtuosic skill with an intimate understanding of musical narrative.\n
