SUMMARY:MOVING SOUNDS FESTIVAL 2009 | a festival devoted to sound and contemporary music
DESCRIPTION:Moving Sounds was a 3-day festival of music, visual media and aesthetic dialogue, produced jointly by the Austrian Cultural Forum, the Musical Information Center of Austria (MICA), the Argento New Music Project, and Le Poisson Rouge. The festival creates a forum for dialogue about sound. Through concerts, symposia, and social environments, the festival explored sound and its musical and sociological implications.\nMOVING SOUNDS 2009 performances included a mix of acoustic and electro-acoustic music, including interactive composition/performance, improvisation, pre-recorded soundtracks, and live interactive works, DJ and remix performances, electronica, and turntablism. Elements of music-, and cultural theory and -criticism featured prominently in these performances as well as in a symposium and panel discussions. The festival also coincided with the opening of the exhibition SOUND:FRAME:REMIX at the Austrian Cultural Forum New York.\nAmong other highlights, the MOVING SOUNDS 2009 Festival featured\nU.S.-and world premieres of pieces by Beat Furrer, Bernhard Lang, Sam Pluta, and Elizabeth Hoffman.\nThe New York Times’ review of the Moving Sounds Festival was published on September 13: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/14/arts/music/14rouge.html\n \nVENUE\nACFNY\n
