In Outpost Artist Resources’ first in-person screening in 18 months, Austrian multimedia artist Hanna Schaich curates a screening featuring Janet Biggs, VALIE EXPORT, Shiri Faingold, Julia Fuhr Mann and Burner/Lo-Fi/Schaich.
ABOUT THE FILM
“Desire and Revolt” shows different approaches on how to defend, define and deconstruct identity. All the works examine, question or criticise the relationship between gender, identity and society.
“I am a queer multimedia artist from Berlin and received the amazing opportunity to curate one of the collections,” says Hanna Schaich. “This allowed me to fully focus on female artists and present a womxn-only screening. Womxn artists are still woefully underrepresented in all aspects of the art world. The existence of a few stars does not mean that women have achieved equality. There is a systemic, structural problem with male artists being valued over females.”

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Hanna Schaich (b. 1986, Performance and Multimedia-artist), Gina Burner (b. 1987, BA Theatre, MA Performance), Lo-Fi Cherry (b. 1984, Lo-Fi Cherry Porno Pics & Feminist tentacles) started producing GAY*WATCH Berlin out of the need for a piece that unites and cums with dirty lyrics to happy tunes. We are hoping to bring forth a feeling of community and cohesion in a time where isolation, fear and uncertainty too often overrules our everyday. GAY*WATCH Berlin is here for us all.

Janet Biggs is a research-based, interdisciplinary artist known for her immersive work in video, film and performance. Biggs’ work focuses on individuals in extreme landscapes or situations, navigating the territory between art, science and technology. Her work has taken her into areas of conflict and to Mars (as a member of crews at the Mars Desert Research Station and Mars Academy USA). Biggs has worked with institutions from NOAA to NASA and CERN and collaborated with high energy nuclear physicists, mathematicians, neuroscientists, Arctic explorers, aerospace engineers, astrophysicists and a robot named Shimon. Last year, Biggs sent a project up to the International Space Station as part of MIT Media Lab’s Space Exploration Initiative.

Valie Export studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in Linz. Graduated from a polytechnic high school as a designer. 1991-95 professor at the College of Arts in Berlin teaching design with visual media (both analog and digital). 1994-95 vice president of the College of Arts in Berlin. Until 1994 professorship at the University of Wisconsin for film and video. Fiction films, avant-garde films, videotapes, expanded cinema, video installations, computer work, persona performances, body-material interaction, photography, installations, sculptures, objects, Gobelins (tapestry) and drawings as well as publications on contemporary art history. 1955-58 first photographic self-portraits. Since 1968 participated in international film festivals. 1970 published in collaboration with Peter Weibel Wien – Bildkompendium Wiener Aktionismus und Film (Vienna – Image Compendium of Viennese Actionism and Film), as a result of this was sentenced to a month’s of conditional imprisonment for the spreading of pornography. In 1977 her film Unsichtbare Gegner (Invisible Adversaries) was nominated by the jury for the Österreichische Staatspreis Austrian state award), but Minister Sinowatz vetoed the nomination. 1978 and 1981 produced two records with Monsti Wiener, Wahre Freundschaft (True Friendship) and Bananen (Bananas). Since 1980 Valie Export Film Productions in Vienna. Conception and organization of international art exhibitions and film programs. Professor at the School of Media in Cologne Founding member of the Austria Filmmakers Cooperative (1968) and of Film Women International (UNESCO) together with Susan Sontag, Mai Zetterling, Agnes Varda, et al; founding member of the Assembly of Authors in Graz (1971), foreign member of the American Cinematheque, Los Angeles (1985).

Shiri Faingold (born 1989 in Jerusalem, Israel) is an Independent erotic -Sci-fi filmmaker. Living and working in Berlin. The core of her work is based on her own autobiography. Using animation, self-made futuristic props and sets, Shiri is portraying reality through her own perspective. Integrated controversial and ironic elements in her work expose the audience to topics such as trauma and social injustice in a more approachable manner.

Julia Fuhr Mann
After studying philosophy and sociology, since 2013 Julia studied film directing at the University of TV and Film Munich.
As a member of Pro Quote Film she stands up for gender equality in the film business, she is a curator for the feminist film festival Bimovie and works for the video section of the Süddeutsche Zeitung. Together with other filmmakers, she has also founded a queer-feminist film network.
Her recent short film RIOT NOT DIET has been shown at more than 60 film festivals worldwide (including Hot Docs International Film Festival) and has received numerous awards (Barcelona International Short Film Festival). Julia Fuhr Mann is currently developing her first feature film, which deals with the dissolution of gender stereotypes in competitive sport.
