OUR MISSION
Located in a critically acclaimed landmark building in the heart of Manhattan, the Austrian Cultural Forum New York is Austria’s leading cultural representation in the United States. The ACFNY presents highlights of Austrian culture in the US by organizing exhibitions and events in the fields of visual art, music, film, theater and literature. All of these are open and free to the public.
We promote a vibrant exchange between Austrian and American artists and international audiences, including by networking with academic and art institutions throughout the United States.
The ACFNY also provides a platform for science diplomacy, focusing on sustainable development and democratic values.
PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES
The scope and outreach of our program is multifaceted and interdisciplinary. Our work reflects a contemporary and cosmopolitan Austria while honoring its Central European heritage.
Our flagship venue features a multilevel gallery, an auditorium and the Frederic Morton Library, home to the largest collection of Austrian literature in North America.
As a diplomatic institution, the ACFNY joins the Austrian Foreign Ministry in its focus on the following topics:
- Innovation and Digitalization
- Ecology and Sustainable Development
- International Science Cooperation and Science Diplomacy
- Intercultural Dialogue
- Human Rights and Dignity
- Women in Art, Culture and Science
The ACFNY is an active member of the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC/NY), a vibrant network of like-minded institutions based in New York.
We actively seek and nourish alliances throughout the nation with the aim of reinvigorating ties between the US and Austria for the benefit of scholars, academics and artists, especially after the onset of the COVID-pandemic and its devastating impact around the globe.
