Artist who are Austrian citizens or work and live in Austria are eligible to apply to this scholarship. This information is only available in German.
Das Bundesministerium für Kunst, Kultur, öffentlicher Dienst und Sport (BMKOES) schreibt erneut Auslandsstipendien im Bereich Filmkunst aus.
Inhaltliche Kriterien
Die Ausschreibung richtet sich an bereits professionell tätige Künstler:innen im Bereich Film, deren Arbeit sich durch eine experimentelle Ausrichtung und einen innovativen Charakter auszeichnet. Die Stipendien sollen es ermöglichen, filmkünstlerische Projekte in der Recherche- und Konzeptionierungsphase im internationalen Kontext vorzubereiten, dafür notwendige Netzwerke aufzubauen und zu vertiefen sowie internationale Kooperationen zu initiieren und/oder weiterzuführen. Reise und Unterkunftwerden von den Künstler:innen selbstständig organisiert.
Formale Kriterien
Bewerbungsberechtigt sind Künstler:innen mit abgeschlossener künstlerischer Ausbildung, die die österreichische Staatsbürgerschaft besitzen oder ihren Lebens- und Arbeitsmittelpunkt in Österreich haben und damit zum Kunstschaffen in Österreich aktiv beitragen. Es müssen bereits erste filmische Arbeiten unabhängig von einer Ausbildungseinrichtung realisiert worden sein.

SYBIL HALPERN MILTON MEMORIAL BOOK PRIZE 2023 – GERMAN STUDIES ASSOCIATION
The Sybil Halpern Milton Memorial Book Prize honors the best book dealing with Nazi Germany and the Holocaust in its broadest context, covering every field represented in the German Studies Association, including history, political science and other social sciences, literature, art, and photography. The prize commemorates the life and legacy of the late Dr. Sybil Halpern Milton (1941-2000), one of the world’s most distinguished experts on the Holocaust and an extremely active member of the German Studies Association. It also commemorates the life and legacy of her late husband, Professor Henry Friedlander (1931-2012), former GSA president and also one of the world’s foremost experts on the Holocaust.
The 2023 Milton Prize of $1,000, funded by private contributions, will be awarded to the best book on any aspect of the Holocaust published during the years 2021 or 2022. Translations, editions, anthologies, memoirs, and books that have been previously published are not eligible.
There are no restrictions on the language or type of book, but it must be an original publication. There is also no restriction on the authors’ citizenship or residence.
The submission deadline is May 31, 2023.

Both EFA itself as well as the Forum Alpbach Network (FAN) award around 400 scholarships.

GRAZ CITY WRITER LITERARY SCHOLARSHIP
September 2023 to August 2024
International authors are invited to apply for the one-year literary scholarship “Graz City Writer” awarded by the Cultural Department of Graz, Styria. The aim is for them to take a closer look at Styria’s capital from their outside perspective.
The scholarship provides a free central apartment in the historic Cerrini-Schlössl on the Schlossberg in Graz with a magnificent view over the city. The residency is well known in the international literary scene: in 2022 there were a total of 59 applications from 21 countries. The 2022/2023 scholarship was awarded to Abdelaziz Baraka Sakin, who was born in Sudan in 1963. He is considered one of the most important voices of Arabic-language literature in the European diaspora.

DIPLOMATISCHE AKADEMIE – SUMMER COURSE “GERMAN LANGUAGE AND CULTURE IN AUSTRIA”
August 7-25, 2023 in Vienna, Austria
The Diplomatische Akademie Wien – Vienna School of International Studies offers intensive German classes for learners of all levels – from beginners to advanced, everybody can find a course suitable to their individual requirements. Classes are taught in small groups by a team of highly experienced trainers specially qualified for teaching “German as a Foreign Language”. By means of creative language learning, research projects and leisure activities, students discover Austria in all its many facets as well as learning new language skills. Lectures and excursions add a unique touch to the course and enable participants to learn about Austrian politics, history, society and culture.
Target group: Students and professionals and all those who want to learn German and know more about Austrian politics, history, society and culture (minimum age: 18)
Duration: 7 – 25 August 2023 (3 weeks)

LITERARY PRIZE 2024
LITERARY PRIZE „NEAR AND FAR“ (LITERATURPREIS „NAH UND FERN“) AS PART OF THE EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE BAD ISCHL, SALZKAMMERGUT 2024
June 22nd and 23rd 2024, in Bad Ischl
For the LITERARY PRIZE „NEAR AND FAR“ they are looking for committed, creative and linguistically concise texts of German-language literature.
The submitted works (prose or lyrical prose) on the topic of “near and far” should reflect personal viewpoints from various people on Europe in literary form. The focus is on identity, coming to terms with the past, and the effects of globalization in the digital age. Spaces of youth, venture into new environments and escaping different perspectives can also be explored.
In addition, submissions can deal with the Austrian Salzkammergut. In the spirit of European diversity, however, this is not a prerequisite.

UNIVIE: SUMMER SCHOOL
INTERNATIONAL AND EUROPEAN STUDIES
July 15 – August 12, 2023
The UNIVIE: SUMMER SCHOOL will take place from July 15 to August 12, 2023. The four week program offers high-level European studies courses, the Austrian Arbitration Academy, and German language courses.
The European studies courses are held in English and focus on Europe and the European Union. They cover political, economic, and legal transformations, and also historical and cultural aspects of the multiple transitions the continent is currently undergoing. The Austrian Arbitration Academy is designed for students of law and focuses on international dispute settlement by arbitral tribunals.
Given the intercultural and interdisciplinary aspect of the summer school, our program is of interest to students from all fields of study, but certainly of special interest to students who concentrate on Europe or study one of the following fields: Austrian Studies, European Studies, Political Science, Law (Arbitration Law, International Law, European Law, Comparative Law), Economics, History, Cultural Studies, International Relations, Interdisciplinary Studies, and/or German.
Students from all over the world have been drawn to the program. The Sommerhochschule has an outstanding academic reputation and offers an excellent opportunity to study German. The campus is located directly on the shore of Lake Wolfgang, one of Austria’s most popular lakes in the picturesque Salzkammergut region.
