IMAGINE CLIMATE DIGNITY: Artistic Collaborations

The call IMAGINE CLIMATE DIGNITY: Artistic Collaborations invites visual artists to address current climate and environmental issues. Together with international partners, they will seek answers to the question of how a future can be shaped that reconciles the dignity of nature and the dignity of mankind.

Submitted and selected project proposals for cooperations will be implemented at Austrian Cultural Forums abroad in 2024. In spring 2025, all projects will subsequently be shown in a joint exhibition at the Künstlerhaus Wien.

The call is the second cooperation between the Austrian Ministry for European and International Affairs and Künstlerhaus Wien after “ON THE ROAD AGAIN”.

Deadline for submitting project proposals is November 15, 2023.

IMAGINE DIGNITY – “Humankind / Nature / Artificial Intelligence: What Kind of World Do We Want to Inhabit in 2040?”

In the frame of the initiative IMAGINE DIGNITY, the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs and the Austrian Literature Society (ÖGfL) are conducting a new writing competition. Essays and literary prose are to be written on the subject of “Humankind / Nature / Artificial Intelligence: What Kind of World Do We Want to Inhabit in 2040?”

Writers* who live and work in Austria or who have Austrian citizenship, regardless of their place of residence, are eligible to submit their texts. In order to promote international literary contacts, applicants are also expected to nominate an international writer* (i.e. not living in Austria and not holding Austrian citizenship) whom they propose to write an independent essay or literary prose text on the above-mentioned subject of the competition and from whom they have already obtained the willingness at the time of submission to also write an essay or literary prose text on the subject if the submission in question is successful.

The submitting writers selected by the jury and the international authors nominated by them will each receive a remuneration of € 2,000 for their texts. The nomination of writers* from EU candidate countries and the focus countries of Austrian foreign culture is particularly welcomed.

Submission deadline: 22 October 2023

June 22nd and 23rd 2024, in Bad Ischl

For the LITERARY PRIZE „NEAR AND FAR“ they are looking for committed, creative and linguistically concise texts of German-language literature.

The submitted works (prose or lyrical prose) on the topic of “near and far” should reflect personal viewpoints from various people on Europe in literary form. The focus is on identity, coming to terms with the past, and the effects of globalization in the digital age. Spaces of youth, venture into new environments and escaping different perspectives can also be explored.

In addition, submissions can deal with the Austrian Salzkammergut. In the spirit of European diversity, however, this is not a prerequisite.
