ACFNY RECOMMENDED | CONCERT | ANGÉLE DUBEAU & LA PIETÀ
Angèle Dubeau is one of Canada’s greatest violin virtuosos, with an international career spanning more than thirty years. The Los Angeles Times described Dubeau as “an exciting, dynamic fiddler…”, and her repertoire includes a broad selection of contemporary music as well as classical works.
Her all-female string ensemble, La Pietà, was founded by Dubeau in 1997. Varying in size and composition, La Pietà features some of Canada’s best musicians. With La Pietà, Dubeau interprets original pieces created especially for her and La Pietà from composers such as Dave Brubeck, Lorraine Desmarais, François Dompierre, Joe Hisaishi, Oliver Jones and Vic Vogel.
Dubeau and La Pietà have played in South America, Asia, Canada and the United States. The concert at the French Institute Alliance Française is their first concert in New York.

Dubeau has won several international prizes, and she is the only Canadian classical musician to have achieved two Gold Records for sales of 50,000 copies of a classical recording.
Dubeau is keen on introducing classical music to a wider audience. As part of this effort she has programmed and hosted gala concerts and weekly music television programs such as the Radio-Canada show Faites vos gammes. From 1995 to 2006, she hosted and directed the Fête de la musique music festival in Mont-Tremblant.
In 1997 Dubeau founded the all-female string ensemble, La Pietà, named after Vivaldi’s work at the Ospedale della Pietà.
