ACFNY RECOMMENDED | FLEETING MELODIES, INVISIBLE POEMS

Celebrate the 141st birthday of Rainer Maria Rilke, one of the most influential and probing poets of the early 20th century. The wide-ranging concert explores Rilke’s rich, multi-layered, and allusive thoughts on life, love, loss, longing, and religion through the musical settings of his work by some of the greatest composers of our time. The program features works by the two-time Pulitzer Prize-winner Samuel Barber (Melodies passageres), the formidable German master Paul Hindemith (selections from his epic cycle Das Marienleben), and Rilke settings by the iconic Leonard Bernstein and the beloved, much-honored Peter Lieberson.

This concert is part of Copland House’s popular main-stage series at the historic Merestead estate in Mount Kisco, NY. Tickets are $25, $20 for the Friends of Copland House, and $10 for students with ID. Further info, tickets, or subscriptions at (914) 788-4659 or www.coplandhouse.org.

Co-sponsored by the Westchester Community Foundation Rudyard and Emanuella Reimss Fund.
