Join us for the closing event of the ACFNY exhibition “Inspiration Comes from Everyday Life: Elfie Semotan and Nina Hollein,” featuring a compelling panel discussion on sustainable fashion with Austrian photographer Elfie Semotan, Austrian fashion designer Nina Hollein and Dr. Bernice Pan, founder of the UK-based sustainable fashion brand Deploy.
The discussion will explore the evolving landscape of sustainable fashion, highlighting innovative practices and ethical approaches that are reshaping the industry. Nina Hollein will discuss how sustainability influences her creative process, while Dr. Pan will share insights into Deploy’s eco-friendly practices and the challenges and successes of promoting sustainable fashion.
The event will include presentations by each panelist, followed by a discussion moderated by Dr. Stephanie Buhmann, Head of Visual Arts, Architecture, and Design at the ACFNY, and conclude with a Q&A session with the audience. Attendees will gain valuable insights into sustainable fashion principles and practices, as well as learn about the future of an industry committed to environmental and social responsibility.
About the Participants
Elfie Semotan is an internationally acclaimed fashion photographer who blurs the line between art and fashion photography. After starting her career as a fashion model in Vienna, she worked in Paris, New York, and Vienna. Semotan’s influential campaigns and portraits of figures like Louise Bourgeois and Ben Stiller showcase her sensitivity and keen observation. Nina Hollein transitioned from architecture to fashion, founding her label in 2008. Based in the U.S., Hollein’s designs combine sculptural elements with sustainable practices, incorporating local fabrics and recycled materials. Dr. Bernice Pan is a British designer and entrepreneur, and the founder of DEPLOY, a brand committed to sustainable fashion. With a background in architecture, theater design, and business, Pan focuses on zero-waste design and circular fashion principles.
