Join us for an extraordinary evening of song celebrating the many facets of dance with Austrian Artists Klaudia Tandl and Gisela Jöbstl

About the Concert

24 pieces by no fewer than 20 composers, divided into five thematic sections, form the program of this extraordinary evening of song. Spanning various eras, diverse perspectives, and a wide range of stylistic approaches, the concert explores every facet of dance, fully embracing the titular quote from Pina Bausch: “Dance, dance, otherwise we are lost!” The first section is devoted to the theme of Dance and Death, featuring works such as Schubert’s Der Jüngling und der Tod and Saint-Saëns’ Danse macabre. The second part turns to Dance and Love, diving deep into the realm of (musical) Romanticism with Hector Berlioz’s Le Spectre de la rose. In the sections that follow, the pieces take a choreographic step into the intangible, leaving the earthly and tangible behind to explore the weightless Dance of the Stars. This journey culminates in a celebration aptly titled Dance and Joy of Life, where music from Benjamin Britten, Leonard Bernstein, and Cécile Chaminade brings the art of dance to life in its purest and most exhilarating form. Finally, in honor of the Johann Strauss Jubilee, the evening concludes with a selection of some of his finest works, showcasing beloved pieces from operettas such as Die Fledermaus and Die Tänzerin Fanny Elssler.
