ACFNY SUPPORTED | ISCP SPRING OPEN STUDIOS

The International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) Spring Open Studios is a two-day exhibition of international contemporary art presented by 35 artists and two curators from 23 countries currently in residence.

Twice a year only, ISCP offers the public access to private artists’ and curators’ studios to view artwork and share one-on-one conversations. Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, ISCP invites the public to engage in dialogue around contemporary art with arts professionals from across the globe. Concentrated in a three-story postindustrial loft building on the edge of Bushwick, ISCP supports the creative advancement of residents, with a robust program of individual workspaces and professional benefits.

Tina Lechner and Maja Vukoje, sponsored by the Bundeskanzleramt Österreich Kunst und Kultur (Arts and Culture Division of the Federal Chancellery of Austria), will be participating and presenting work in their studios. Open Studios are free and open to the public and provide insight into the work, process and archive of resident artists and curators.

Opening Reception: Friday, March 29, 6–9pm
Open Hours: Saturday, March 30, 1–7pm

ABOUT

Working with analog photography, Tina Lechner uses her camera as an instrument to explore identity, depict subjectivity, and open the gaze to an apocalyptic vision of (post-) modernity. In her photographs, the human body is coated in self-produced sculptural objects that suggest some sort of science fiction-esque rebirth undermining the cultural construction of femininity. Tina Lechner has exhibited work at C/O Berlin; Weltmuseum, Vienna; and Belvedere 21, Vienna, among others. tinalechner.com

In her large-format paintings, Maja Vukoje addresses discursive issues such as post-colonialism, gender, and popular culture. Due to her own migration experience, she is particularly interested in syncretic cultural phenomena. Her work exploits all the possibilities of painting. She creates various pictorial forms of expression through the use of combs, putty knives, stencils, flowing paint, sprayed elements, and applications of real objects. The result is a somewhat undecipherable contextual meaning of the images. Maja Vukoje has exhibited work at Künstlerhaus- Halle für Kunst & Medien, Graz; Zacheta – National Gallery of Art, Warsaw; and Secession, Vienna, among others. majavukoje.at
