ACFNY SUPPORTED | PETER KRONREIF WAYFARERS – “AERONAUTICS”

With this concert, Peter Kronreif WAYFARERS celebrate the release of their second Album “Aeronautics”. The line-up features some of NYC’s finest and in-demand young lions of the jazz scene: Andrew Gould (alto), Lucas Pino (tenor), Addison Frei (piano), Matthias Loescher & Alex Wintz (guitar), Martin Nevin (bass) and Peter Kronreif (drums, composition). Jazztrail has described Kronreif as “Leading and composing with charisma” with “extraordinary grace and plush lyricism”.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Peter Kronreif, born and raised in Salzburg, Austria, studied Jazz at Bruckner University in Linz with Doug Hammond & Jeff Boudreaux. As a young player, he gained a lot of experience performing with jazz greats in the European scene. Working with, amongst others Harry Sokal, Matthieu Michel, Johannes Enders & Alegre Correa brought him on tour in over 20 nations – and in 2010 he was awarded the Hans-Koller-Prize as “Sideman of the Year“. Also in 2010, he released his first record as a bandleader, “Gloaming”, with his New York-based group WAYFARERS in 2010, they since toured Europe twice with great success. Kronreif currently lives in Brooklyn and has been working as a drummer with many artists of different styles & genres, such as the Le Boeuf Brothers, Allan Harris, Seamus Blake, Donny McCaslin, John Medeski, Florian Hoefner, Remy LeBoeuf, Thana Alexa, SK Invitational, John JR Robinson, Nuf Said, Ray Angry

Originally from Lawrence, Kansas, pianist Addison Frei celebrated his latest album No Defense (TCB Records) with solo performances at the Monterey Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, Alhambra (Geneva), and Lucerne Piano Festival. A proud Yamaha Artist, Frei’s previous records include Transit (2016) and Intentions (2014). He also co-leads AMP Trio, contributing compositions to each of their five studio albums.

A graduate of both Manhattan School of Music and SUNY Purchase, Andrew Gould continues to teach regularly, and has taught private lessons at The New School, and has given masterclasses at SUNY Purchase, Hofstra University and many many more. Andrew has recently released his debut album “First Things First” on the Outside In Music label, which has received great critical acclaim. He composes for and tours worldwide with rnb/soul band Nuf Said, who will be releasing the 3rd album in 2020. Other exciting projects include recording and performing with the 8 Bit Big Band, Steven Feifke Big Band, Dan Pugach Nonet, the Revive Big Band, the debut recording of Wayne Shorters “Universe” with the Wallace Roney Orchestra, horn section work/writing with GRAMMY-winning hip hop producer 88 Keys for Warner Music.

Martin Nevin is a composer and bassist originally from Los Angeles, CA. He has performed and/or recorded with notable artists such as Albert “Tootie” Heath, Billy Hart, Greg Osby, Jason Moran, Ambrose Akinmusire, Ethan Iverson, and Aaron Parks, in venues across the U.S and abroad. Martin’s debut as a leader, Tenderness is Silent, was released in 2017. In that same year, he was awarded a grant by the American Composers Forum to compose Scratch at the Same Table, a song cycle based on the poetry of Jonathan C. Creasy. Martin holds a B.M. from Manhattan School of Music and an M.A. from Columbia University.

Lucas Pino, multi-instrumentalist, composer and bandleader has been hailed as one of the most sought-after saxophone voices of his generation on the scene today. Pino has been called a “high wire act of musical textures and technique…” (Carmel DeSoto, jazzpolice.com) and been described as having “huge range, controlled ferocity, fleet notes and articulate expression” (Geoff Chapman, Toronto Star).

Pino composes for and leads the No Net Nonet, his own ensemble featuring a selection of New York City’s best young musicians. The nonet’s debut record is due out early 2015. The No Net Nonet can be seen regularly at the famous Smalls Jazz Club, where they have held a residency since 2013. A featured sideman in many groups, Lucas records and tours with acts Rafal Sarnecki, Gideon van Gelder and Jeremy Siskind among many others.”
