NLE 2015 | BERNHARD AICHNER @ NEW LITERATURE FROM EUROPE 2015
Join us for the first annual NLE Translation Slam as our Austrian, Danish and Catalan writers and their translators delve into the complexities of language and discuss the changes that occur when a text is translated from one language into another. The battle will play out in an onstage Slam, with writers reading from their work in its original language, followed by a translator who reads their interpretation of the text in English. By the end of the night, you’ll have the first-hand experience of how easy it is for words to get lost in translation, and you will have an all-new appreciation for the unsung heroes of literature – the translators! Book sales and signing to follow.
Participants: Bernhard Aichner, Naja Marie Aidt, Jordi Puntí with Michael Reynolds, editor in chief of Europa Editions and six extraordinary translators.
Bernhard Aichner’s thriller Woman of the Dead (“Totenfrau”) has been a long-time bestseller in Austria and Germany. Aichner spent six months working for an undertaker while researching the novel, which has been sold in sixteen countries including the USA and the UK, and is being made into a feature-length movie. House of the Dead, the second novel in the Blum trilogy, continues the series’ success.
