ACFNY RECOMMENDS | NYC INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL

The NYC Indie Film Festival provides a showcase for the best in independent cinema, including short films, feature films, music videos, and animated works. With panels, parties and a week-long gathering of fellow indie filmmakers, the 6th Annual New York City Independent Film Festival is the place to be October 12 – 18, 2015.

The festival strives to promote an open and nurturing environment for artists, writers, actors, film-makers and fans.

We are happy to announce that five Austrian Movies will be featured during this year’s festival:

Hinter der Tur (15 min)

Directed by: Stelios Giannolulakis

A telephone rings. Janis answers the call. He falls silent. His father died in a car accident, he is told. , Weeks later, he and his life companion begin clearing up his father’s estate. When Janis breaks open a locked closet, he finds unveils a dark secret that will change his life forever. As the façade crumbles, the abyss is laid bare – a once loving home becomes a place that no one ever truly knew.

Leben in Vienna (25 min)

Directed by: Camilla Ruzicka

After being diagnosed with the early stages of Alzheimer’s, Anna, a 33-year-old control freak from London, goes to Vienna with the hope of treating her disease and escaping the sympathy and pity of her family and friends.

This film will screen on October 17th at 8:40pm.

Michael S. versammelt (3 min)

Directed and written by: Steven Swirko

Michael Schneider is a passionate cinéaste. No love in his life has been as enduring as his love for the movies. Ever since he was a teenager he has been collecting Super 8mm versions of films of all sorts: features, commercial, old newsreels – he’s got it all. While his private life fell victim to his passion, his collection is growing bigger and bigger every day. Now, for the first time, Michael has to ask himself, if the choices he made will keep him happy.

Salvation (30 min)

Directed and written by: Mark Gerstorfer

ANDREAS loves filming anything that will come in front of his camera lens. He especially takes joy in shooting videos, in which he and his friends CLEMENS and DINA pretend to kill themselves. When ANDREAS massively exaggerates and carelessly throws himself on the subway tracks just to shock his best friend, CLEMENS has had enough and quits their friendship. ANDREAS seeks refuge in DINAS’ company but overlooks her real intentions… This film will screen on October 15th at 3:45pm.

Birthday Present (26 min)

Directed and written by: Guy Lichtenstein

Cast: Nitai Gvirtz, Almuth Hattwich

On their last night together, Clara, a young Austrian tourist, and Tomer, an Israeli student, find themselves in an unexpected search for the “Morning-after pill”. The cultural and personal gaps create a distance between them, confronting the realities of two worlds apart. Those being illuminated through the background of multicultural Jerusalem, with its extreme figures, who the two encounter on their nightly search. Tomer and Clara try to open up to each other, but every chance they have of closeness is being interrupted by the outside world.
