ACFNY RECOMMENDS | GERMAN BOOK CLUB | HEINRICH STEINFEST | EIN DICKES FELL
The August installment of the German Book Club at the Goethe-Institut New York will read and discuss Ein dickes Fell by Heinrich Steinfest, one of Austria’s finest contemporary writers.
A Chinese detective in Vienna; the recipe for the perfume “4711”; a mysteriously honest man who pulls the strings behind the scenes, and a strangely sympathetic female serial killer – Steinfest creates amusing and bizarre worlds in his crime thrillers. The novels revolving around his main character, the detective Markus Cheng, born in Vienna to Chinese parents, already have legions of fans.
“It is due to the ‘petitesses’ that Steinfest’s crime stories are so utterly readable – just to use one of of the author’s favorite words, which he smuggles into all texts at least once.” – Neue Zürcher Zeitung
Award-winning Austrian crime novelist Heinrich Steinfest was born in 1961 in Albury, Australia. His emigrant parents moved back to their native Vienna in 1963 where he resided until recently, when he settled in Stuttgart.
The discussion will be in German.
