ACFNY RECOMMENDED | ERNST CARAMELLE: SERIOUS CANDY REVISITED
Austrian artist Ernst Caramelle comes to New York with his exhibition of serious candy revisited, the first solo show presented at Peter Freeman, Inc.
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION:
Austrian conceptual artist Caramelle works with non-traditional materials, using gesso, wine – even the transformative power of sunlight – on paper and board. A selection of what he calls “gesso pieces” (or “quasi-paintings”) and “sun pieces” will be on view, as well as a series of drawings. The artist will create a large-scale watercolor wall painting – a “quasi-fresco” – on-site in response to the gallery space.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Ernst Caramelle (b. 1952, Tyrol, Austria) lives and works in Frankfurt, Karlsruhe, and New York. Notable solo exhibitions include La Salle de bains, Lyon (2014), Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus (2012), Bloomberg Space, London (2010) and many more. Caramelle’s upcoming projects include a solo exhibition at the Bonnefantenmuseum in Maastricht in December, and a retrospective at MUMOK, Vienna, in 2018.
A reception for the artist will be held Thursday 15 September from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
