These are just a few of the things literary critics in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland have been saying about Here is Berlin, by New York-based writer JM Stim. Here is Berlin is a German-American co-production: The introduction and the translation are by critically acclaimed Brooklyn-based writer and translator Tim Mohr.
Due to the great success of the German edition of Here is Berlin in Europe, an American edition of the book is being launched at this special event at Deutsches Haus at NYU.
The event will feature moderator Rachel D. Libeskind in conversation with authors JM Stim and Tim Mohr.
ABOUT THE PARTICIPANTS
JM Stim (born Klaus Josef Stimeder in 1975) is a writer and a journalist who lives in Manhattan. In Central Europe the former war correspondent and sports writer became known as the founder and publisher of acclaimed political magazine DATUM and for writing the seminal biography “Despite everything”, which covers the life of Austro-Jewish publishing legend Oscar Bronner.
Tim Mohr is a writer and an award-winning translator of German novels, including the international best seller “Wetlands”, by Charlotte Roche. He spent several years as a staff editor at Playboy magazine, where he worked with writers such as Hunter S. Thompson, Matt Taibbi, John Dean, and Harvey Pekar. Tims final project with Thompson anchors Da Capo’s book “Ancient Gonzo Wisdom”. His writing has appeared in the New York Times and New York Times Book Review, the Daily Beast, New York magazine, the eXile, and other publications. He collaborated with Duff McKagan on “It’s SoEasy (and other lies)”, McKagan’s memoir. His most recent work, the biography of Gil Scott-Heron, has just been published by Grove/Atlantic. Prior to starting his writing career, Tim earned his living as a club DJ in Berlin.
Rachel D. Libeskind was born in Milan. In 1989, she came to the divided Berlin, where she spent her formative years as a bilingual student. She moved to New York City in 2003. She is a graduate of Harvard University in Visual Studies and French literature. She is an artist.
