ACFNY supported | Dorit Chrysler – Calder Plays Theremin

March 9 – 23

Calder Plays Theremin is a video installation featuring the multi-movement orchestra for the theremin composed by Dorit Chrysler and “performed” by two of Alexander Calder’s sculptures. The film is assembled from the sounds and images Chrysler recorded during Calder’s recent exhibition at MoMA.

On the opening day, March 9, the gallery will be open 6 – 8 pm, and thereafter during regular gallery hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 11 am – 6 pm. A closing performance with sets by Dorit Chrysler vs Claudius (NY/Berlin), and Lary 7 will take place on Wednesday, March 23, at 7 PM.

Dorit Chrysler is a Berlin-based composer and sound artist, as well as co-founder of the NY Theremin Society. Her work explores the application of the theremin instrument in various mediums. She earned her Master’s Degree in Musicology in Vienna and has performed her compositions worldwide.
