ACFNY SUPPORTED | POLY-FLEXION, A RE-PERFORMANCE OF FEMININE DIAGONALS

The slanted look, the twisted body – the imposition of diagonal lines on the female body might represent the projection of the desired strangeness, a mystified seductiveness. A polyrhythmic not-not wanting. Through choreographic analysis and dance practice, the Berlin-based Austrian performing artists and choreographer Naïma Mazic wants to reclaim the gesture of feminine diagonals, embody them, own them, transform them.
Mazic tries to “queer” these deciphered lines, giving them a chance to re-orient our lines of sight across identity, and to perform through anybody.

With “PoLy-Flexion,” Mazic has created an interactive score that, through the use of the diagonals in the body, gives us the possibility to explore ideas around the classical representation of femininity. Online participants will be invited to take a selfie choosing one of the positions they have explored. Those images will be added to an archive of the performance.

ABOUT
Naïma Mazic (n ï m company), a dancer and choreographer from Vienna, founded the association more2rhythm
and the n ï m company in 2016. She has an MA in Performance Studies from NYU TISCH, has been a resident choreographer at K3 Tanzplan/Kampnagel and studied at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels, the Reykjavik Academy of Arts and MUK in Vienna. She was part of ImPulsTanz DanceWeb and of the HipHop Continuum at Jacob’s Pillow. Her work is based on the rhythmic relationship between dancers and jazz musicians. ABOUT LIVING AWAY FEST
Living Away Fest is a socially-distanced and domestic live arts festival that integrates a mix of online and offline activities. Living Away Fest will be looking into ways to interact with each other, to be close to each other even in the ongoing situation. Living Away will present works from a diverse group of artists, mostly women, and from an array of nine different nationalities.

HOW DOES IT WORK
Festival guests will receive a box by mail once they have subscribed to the event. Inside the box there will be seven envelopes containing journals, one for each day of the week. Those custom-made journals will provide the guest with instructions on how to experience the event.

Living Away Fest will have a broad program including live performances, radio, TV, video games, workshops, a cooking class, a performance-lecture, instructions for taking a selfie, a dance class, meditations, self-conduct offline practices, poetical walks in the neighborhood and other forms of interaction between the artists and the guests.
