ACFNY SUPPORTED | TOUR COBARIO: TEN WORLDS

“Herwigos” (violin, viola, piano), “El Coba” (guitar) and “Giorgio Rovere” (guitar) make up the Viennese trio Cobario. They have already toured half the globe and have been inspiring their audience with an eclectic mix of dreamy and melancholy tunes, energetic and compelling sound installations, as well as virtuosic solos for ten years now; making it the perfect time to release their fifth album, Zehn Welten (Ten Worlds). Listeners are invited to go on a musical voyage of discovery, starting with the CD booklet which is designed to look like a nautical chart. Each of the compositions presents a distinct world of its own, beautifully created and explored by Cobario.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Cobario started their musical journey as buskers on the streets of Barcelona in 2006. The trio soon developed their characteristic style of music, largely influenced by the vast variety of inspirations they gained traveling the world as buskers. What made performing in public places so special to them was the unique energy created by the interaction with the audience. The trio puts all their travel anecdotes and adventures into their music and gave performances filled with their typical Viennese charm. Cobario was invited to play at festivals and concert halls across Europe, North America and Asia. Cobario’s recent compositions and captivating style of play still radiate that unique buskers’ energy as they impressively demonstrate on their new album “Zehn Welten” (“Ten Worlds”).

Herwig Schaffner aka “Herwigos” began playing the violin and the piano at the age of eight and was accepted into the prestigious Mozarteum University of Salzburg at only 16 years of age. He played in several orchestras including the European Youth Orchestra and performed under the direction of Yehudi Menuhin and Sandor Vegh. Extensive orchestra tours took him across Europe and Asia.

Georg Aichberger aka “Giorgio Rovere” began playing the guitar at the age of 14. After several years of self-taught guitar lessons and playing in various bands, he attended the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna as well as the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. His musical career has led him to a number of countries such as Spain, France, the UK, Hungary and Croatia.

Jakob Lackner aka “El Coba” has been fascinated by the sound of acoustic guitars since his early teenage years. After several years of self-taught playing, he began studying with renowned guitarists such as Peter Ratzenbeck. Until the age of 20, Jakob was involved in numerous musical projects and played in bands covering different styles, before he finally founded Cobario in 2007.
