ABOUT THE BOOK
At the exhibition Judith P. Fischer and Uwe Hauenfels. ACROSS TIME. FORM AND SPACE. at the Austrian Cultural Forum New York (October 2024 – January 2025), curator Dr. Stephanie Buhmann brought together two distinctive artistic positions in a carefully orchestrated dialogue with the architectural space. Their works now meet again in this publication. More than a conventional exhibition catalog, the book offers an in-depth reflection on the multifaceted oeuvres of both artists. Their practices explore the intersections of space, time, and perception, while raising essential questions of transformation and corporeality.
Through sculpture, drawing, and installation, Judith P. Fischer examines the possibilities of line, texture, and materiality in relation to spatial perception. Particularly striking is her large-scale installation of elastic cord, which directly engages with the architecture of the ACFNY and dissolves the boundary between drawing and sculpture. Uwe Hauenfels, whose calligraphic spatial drawings weave together movement, color, and the interplay of light and shadow, is represented with his series Levitations. Inspired by vegetal structures and the impulse to transcend gravity, his sculptural work, marked by technical mastery, unites concept and material with remarkable clarity.
The book opens a vibrant discourse between innovation and artistic practice and invites readers to experience the works of Judith P. Fischer and Uwe Hauenfels in all their richness and complexity.
