CONCERT | DA PONTE DAY – CONCERT
In occasion of the “Da Ponte Day” the Austrian Cultural Forum New York, in cooperation with the Don Juan Archive Vienna and the Mozarteum University Salzburg, presents a concert performed by members of the Mozarteum University Salzburg: arias and duets from the Da Ponte operas written for Mozart: Le nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni and Così fan tutte, as well as piano variations and paraphrases on themes of Mozart’s Figaro and Don Giovanni by Johann Baptist Cramer, Franz Xaver Mozart, Camille Pleyel and Joseph Woelfl. According to the topic of the symposium – “Power and seduction” – Teresa Tièschky (soprano) and Matthias Winckhler (baritone), accompanied by Wolfgang Brunner at the piano, will represent Conte Almaviva and Susanna, Don Giovanni, Leporello and Zerlina, Despina and Gugliemo.
Teresa Tièschky is winner of many competitions, so she got the first price of the “International Duschek Competition of the German Mozart Society”. At the stage she performed Tamiri in Mozart’s Il Re Pastore and Servilia in La Clemenza di Tito. She is also very engaged in the interpretation of contemporary music, premiering Io’s Traum (‘Io’s Dream’), an aria for coloratura soprano of the Austrian composer Wolfgang Niessner (2013).

Also Matthias Winckhler won many prices, among them the first price of this year’s “International Mozart Competition Salzburg”. The baritone’s concert repertoire includes oratorios and cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach and his contemporary composers, as well as classical and romantic oratorios up to contemporary works. Next year, Matthias Winckler, who has also a great passion for the “Kunstlied”, will be a member of the State Opera Hannover. His performing parts include Conte Almaviva (Le Nozze di Figaro) and Don Giovanni.

Wolfgang Brunner is University Lecturer in Historic Keybord Instruments. He is the conductor of the “Salzburger Hofmusik” (‘Salzburg Court Music’), which he founded in 1992, focussing on works of the 17th, 18th and early 19th century. His records contain many works never recorded before: the piano pieces of Anton Bruckner and of E T. A Hofmann as well as the opera Arminio by the great Salzburg composer Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber. Also at the concert in New York he will play piano pieces, which are widely unknown to the audience.
