The Austrian Cultural Forum New York presents baritone Christopher Dylan Herbert and pianist Elaine Rinaldi in a Lieder recital. The program journeys from the restless wandering of a lost soul in Schubert’s epochal “Winterreise” to the idyllic tranquility of “A Restaurant by the Sea” from contemporary American composer John Bucchino.
Christopher Dylan Herbert holds degrees in Music and Middle Eastern Studies from Yale University and Harvard University. Internationally acclaimed for his “smooth baritone voice”, his “consistently warm sound” and his “versatile dramatic abilities”, he has won awards in notable competitions such as the Gérard Souzay Competition, the Kurt Weill Foundation’s Lotte Lenya Competition, the Liederkranz Foundation Competition and the Sullivan Foundation Competition. His repertoire encompasses the Mozart roles Papageno, Guglielmo, Masetto, both Mozart’s and Rossini’s Figaro, Aeneas and Sid in Britten’s “Albert Herring”. This past season, he appeared as Connie in Ricky Ian Gordon’s “The Grapes of Wrath” with the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival and Henrik Egerman in Sondheim’s “A Little Night Music” with the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis.
Elaine Rinaldi is fast making her mark among the ranks of rising young American conductors. As Founder and Music Director of Orchestra Miami, Miami’s only fully professional orchestra, Ms. Rinaldi has brought a new level of professionalism and quality to the local arts scene. In addition to her work with Orchestra Miami, Elaine Rinaldi is much in demand as an opera conductor and recital accompanist. A winner of numerous scholarships and awards, she made her professional debut at the age of 16 as a piano soloist with the Ft. Lauderdale Chamber Orchestra. After graduation, she received a scholarship to the prestigious Mannes School of Music in New York, where she studied piano with Nina Svetlanova, Chamber Music with Julius Levine and Vocal Coaching with Benton Hess and Joan Dornemann.
