ABOUT THE ARTISTS
The Merlin Ensemble Wien was founded in 1991. This circle of musicians around the “Chamber Orchestra of Europe” has the aim to combine chamber music programs and musically dramatic projects with German-speaking actors like Hermann Beil, Peter Matic, Martin Schwab, Karl Markovics and Ulrich Matthes, of the highest level.
The Merlin Ensemble Wien has played at festivals and concert halls such as Salzburg Festival, Lucerne Festival, Beethovenfest Bonn, Musikfest Bremen, Musikverein und Konzerthaus Wien, Arnold Schoenberg Center Vienna, Morgan Library New York, Carinthian Summer, Berliner Ensemble, Opera Leipzig, NDR Hannover, Teatro Fenice, Teatro Comunale Bologna and Teatro Comunale di Ferrara, Austrian Cultural Forum in New York and Washington DC and many others.
Collaborations: Sir Neville Marriner (Tripelkonzert by Beethoven), and with composers like Friedrich Cerha, Sofia Gubaidulina, Thomas Daniel Schlee and Christian Muthspiel.
Recordings such as Igor Stravinsky’s “Soldiers Tale” (Preiser Records) and Oliver Messiaen’s “Quatuor pour la fin du temps” as an ORF CD cycle are an important part of their artistic work.
