Quickly establishing itself as one of Austria’s premier chamber ensembles, the Minetti Quartett returns to the ACFNY with a program deeply rooted in the vast quartet repertoire with Balduin Sulzer’s ‘Invention’ written for the quartet in 2013 to celebrate their first decade as an ensemble.

“The Minetti Quartet is a musical sensation from Austria,” wrote Der Tagesspiegel following the Minetti Quartet’s début in the Berlin Philharmonie in 2009. The quartet’s name is a reference to a play by the dramatist Thomas Bernhard, who lived for many years in Ohlsdorf, the birthplace of the two violinists.
The Minetti Quartet has been a “rising star” of the ECHO (European Concert Hall Organisation) in the 2008/09 season. Since then it has played in, among other venues, London’s Wigmore Hall, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Palau de la Música in Barcelona, the Konserthuset Stockholm, the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, the Cologne Philharmonie, the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, the Salzburg Mozarteum, and Vienna’s Konzerthaus and Musikverein. The Minetti Quartet is also a welcome guest at various leading chamber music festivals including the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, Aldeburgh, Aix-en-Provence, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (north-east Germany) and Kuhmo (Finland). In addition to appearances in the big European cultural centers, it has undertaken concert tours to North, Central and South America and to Australia, Japan and China.
The Minetti Quartet wishes to express its thanks to Thomastik-Infeld of Vienna for their support. The Austrian National Bank has kindly arranged the use of a violin by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini (“ex Meinel”, 1770–1775) and a cello by Giovanni Tononi (Bologna, 1681). Anna Knopp plays the violin by Laurenzius Storioni (Cremona, 1793), lent by private arrangement, and Milan Milojicic plays a viola by Bernd Hiller.
