CONCERT | Vienna Piano Trio
For almost 20 years, the Vienna Piano Trio has been performing regularly in virtually every major music center in Europe, the Americas, Australia, and the Far East. The trio was founded by violinist Wolfgang Redik, cellist Marcus Trefny, and pianist Stefan Mendl in 1988.
The Vienna Piano Trio regularly performs at music festivals such as the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, the Mozartwoche Salzburg, the Beethovenfest Bonn (Germany), the chamber-music festival in Kuhmo (Finland), and the festivals in Ottawa and Lanaudiere. In addition, the group tours worldwide, performing in major music cities such as London, Paris, New York, Buenos Aires, Bogota, Toronto, Montreal, Mexico City, Tokyo, Sydney, Brussels, Barcelona and Berlin.
The Vienna Piano Trio’s discography includes works by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Dvoøák, Shostakovich and Schnittke, all released on the British label Nimbus Records. Its recordings have earned the trio highest critical acclaim as well as several awards.

Composer Johannes Maria Staud
Johannes Maria Staud, born in 1974, is one of the most promising and successful Austrian composers of the younger generation.
From 1994 to 2001, he studied composition and music theory in Vienna and Berlin. He was granted the Advancement Award for Music by the Republic of Austria in 2001, the first prize at the International Rostrum of Composers in 2003 for his piece Polygon in the category Composers under 30 Years, and the Austrian State Composers’ Scholarship in 2006. From 2007 to 2009, he was a Daniel R. Lewis Young Composer Fellow with the Cleveland Orchestra for which he composed the orchestral work On Comparative Meteorology.
The Vienna Piano Trio presents Four Miniatures, written in 2007, to give a taste of his work, as Johannes Maria Staud will also be at the ACF for a Composer’s Portrait in the 2010 season.
