CONCERT | WOLFGANG MUTHSPIEL SOLO

Ever since he embarked on his journey into jazz and improvised music, renowned Austrian guitarist and composer Wolfgang Muthspiel embraces the art of playing solo. It has become a kind of laboratory for trying out new ideas, a forum for his own development and a place where various streams of music flow together naturally. In his solo program, he plays original compositions as well as improvisations over standards, using the classical acoustic guitar as well as the electric instrument, his voice, and various loops and electronic devices. Join us for an evening of contemporary jazz in the ACFNY’s theatre.

The German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung wrote: “The only constant in the work of celebrated jazz guitarist Wolfgang Muthspiel is change”. After heading a long list of ever-changing projects the solo format has become an important continuum. The classically trained ECM recording artist, who spent fifteen years in Boston and New York, lives in Vienna and works as a professor at the Musikhochschule Basel.
