Join us for European Literature Night 2026, an annual celebration of contemporary European literature bringing together acclaimed authors, translators, publishers, and readers from across Europe. Presented by Czech Center New York and EUNIC New York, this year’s edition at the Ukrainian Institute of America features live readings, panel discussions moderated by PEN America, conversations, book signings, and a festive reception.
About the Evening
For one evening, New York becomes a meeting place for literary voices from across Europe. Through literature in translation, European Literature Night invites audiences to:

- Explore Across Borders – Experience the richness and diversity of Europe’s literary landscape across languages and cultures

The Austrian Participant: Tanja Paar
Tanja Paar is an Austrian writer based in Vienna. She represents Austria at European Literature Night 2026, joining literary voices from 14 European countries for an evening dedicated to storytelling, cultural exchange, and contemporary European literature. Born in Graz, she studied German, history, and philosophy before working in theatre, journalism, and publishing. Her novels place characters at moments of personal and political upheaval, exploring boundaries, belonging, and the possibility of change.
