We are pleased to support the Exilarte Jubilee Concert, marking two important Austrian anniversaries: 20 years of Vienna’s Exilarte – Center for Banned Music and 10 years of the Exilarte Research Center at the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Presented by the American Society for Jewish Music and co-sponsored by the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research and the Leo Baeck Institute, the concert brings members of the Vienna Philharmonic together with pianist David Hausknecht for an evening dedicated to composers whose voices were silenced under the Nazi regime.
About the Concert
Founded in Vienna, Exilarte is a leading Austrian institution devoted to the research, preservation, and presentation of music by composers, performers, and artists persecuted as “degenerate” during the Third Reich. This commemorative program highlights works by Gustav Mahler, Erwin Schulhoff, and Walter Bricht, underscoring Austria’s responsibility to confront this history while safeguarding a vital part of its musical and cultural heritage. The evening will be moderated by Gerold Gruber, founder of Exilarte and head of the Exilarte Center at the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, and will be followed by a reception.
This program takes place at the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research, located in the Center for Jewish History, 15 West 16th Street, New York.
