About the Concert
In this recital, Baechle and Hadulla breathe life into a program spanning over a century of vocal music. From the early 20th-century lyricism of Alban Berg and Richard Strauss to the poetic expressiveness of Joseph Marx and Karl Weigl, and the introspective modernity of Richard Dünser. Each piece in the program reveals a different facet of the human condition: longing, solace, remembrance, and spiritual reflection. With Baechle’s richly expressive voice and Hadulla’s sensitive pianism, this evening promises a journey through soundscapes both familiar and rarely heard and is therefore offering a new perspective on Austria’s rich lieder tradition.

About the Artists
Janina Bächle: German mezzo-soprano Janina Baechle has graced the stages of the Vienna State Opera, Semper Opera Dresden, and Opéra National de Paris. She has performed with top orchestras including the Vienna, Munich, and New York Philharmonics under conductors such as Christian Thielemann and Sir Simon Rattle. Her award-winning discography includes Urlicht, recipient of the Orphée d’Or. In 2023, she was honored as a Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres.
Markus Hadulla: A pianist with a gift for bridging music and literature, Markus Hadulla has performed on stages from the Berliner Philharmonie to Carnegie Hall. He is a professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, a curator of two interdisciplinary concert series, and a sought-after collaborator for both vocalists and instrumentalists. His recordings have received international acclaim.
