Join us for an evening dedicated to the art of Lied as soprano Miriam Kutrowatz and pianist Andreas Fröschl present Longing for Spring, a recital that brings together pillars of the Viennese song tradition with the expressive sound world of Richard Strauss. United by a shared artistic focus on German Lied, the duo offers a program that reflects both historical depth and their own long-standing engagement with this repertoire.

About the Concert

The recital opens with a selection of songs by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, ranging from playful and light-hearted miniatures to more intimate and melancholic works, including one of his rare songs in the French language. The focus then turns to nineteenth-century Austrian Lied. The second half of the evening is devoted entirely to Richard Strauss, a composer central to the duo’s artistic collaboration. The program continues with a group of selected songs. The duo’s ongoing exploration of Strauss’s Lieder has recently culminated in the recording of a complete Strauss album—including the works featured in this recital—soon to be released. This concert thus reflects a repertoire that has accompanied their collaboration over an extended period of time.

About the Artists

Miriam Kutrowatz

Praised for her “crystal clear soprano”, Viennese soprano Miriam Kutrowatz is in high demand on Europe’s concert and operatic stages. In the 2025–26 season, she appears with the Tonkünstler-Orchester and Philharmonie Salzburg and performs at the Vienna Musikverein and Konzerthaus in works including Bach’s Weihnachtsoratorium, Haydn’s Paukenmesse, and Handel’s Messiah. On the operatic stage, she makes debuts in the title role of J.C. Bach’s Zanaida with Kammerakademie Potsdam and at Opéra National de Montpellier as Zerlina in Don Giovanni. Her operatic engagements have led her to the Opernhaus Zürich, Komische Oper Berlin, Wiener Staatsoper, Theater an der Wien, Salzburg Festival, and the JOpera Festival.

Andreas Fröschl

Andreas Fröschl is recognized for his exceptional musical versatility. In 2019, he won second prize as a piano soloist at the Bösendorfer Competition in Vienna and released his first solo album Warum nicht. on Preiser Records, presenting both classical piano repertoire and his own cabaret compositions. While maintaining an active solo career, his great passion lies in Lied. He has appeared internationally with artists including Fatma Said, Robert Holl, Michael Schade, Daniel Johannsen, Patricia Nolz, and Miriam Kutrowatz. His performances have taken him to festivals such as Heidelberger Frühling, the Bayreuth Festival, the Liszt Festival Raiding, and Wigmore Hall in London, as well as on concert tours to Mexico and the United States. From June 2026, Fröschl will serve as artistic director of the concert series “LieberLied” at the Ehrbar Hall in Vienna. Image: Julia Dax
