About Hedy Lamarr

Hedy Lamarr, once known as ‘The most beautiful woman in the world’ was a trailblazer who defied social conventions and pushed the boundaries of technology. Born Hedwig Kiesler, she was raised in Vienna, Austria, and began her career as an actress in 1930s Berlin. The show follows the journey of the Hollywood star, her turbulent private life and her incredible accomplishments beyond the silver screen. Her iconic performance in the 1933 Czech film Ecstasy earned her international fame, but her true legacy was the groundbreaking inventions that would come later. Lamarr developed a frequency-hopping system to protect radio-controlled torpedoes from enemy interception. This invention eventually led to the development of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS. Lamarr’s contributions to technology have been recognized with a variety of awards, including an induction into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2014. Despite her accomplishments, Lamarr faced numerous challenges throughout her life. Hedy Lamarr’s story is an inspiring example of what is possible when ambition and creativity are combined with an unyielding desire to go against the grain, fight convention at every turn and do everything on her own terms. Her legacy lives on and she continues to inspire generations.
