SPECIAL EVENT | SLOVAK FASHION NIGHT
The Annual Slovak Fashion Night highlights the cultural, intellectual, and social richness of Slovakia and Central Europe by exposing American audiences to the creativity of young designers who are just beginning to leave their mark on the international fashion scene. This year marks the eighth installment of the popular event, and the evening’s theme, “Fashion Unites Us”, will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the autonomy of Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
This year’s featured Austrian designer is Maria Steiner from Vienna, who will be presenting the latest trends in Austrian fashion with her label ruins of modernity.
Maria Steiner founded Ruins of Modernity in Vienna in 2010, and just presented her 6th collection – titled “shadows” – at the Vienna Awards for Fashion and Lifestyle. Her collections feature what she calls “clean architectural shapes, grown-up emancipated elegance, reduction & minimalism.” Steiner goes on to describe her style as clearly in-synch with her hometown of Vienna: “The clean shapes of ruins modernity and its un-ostentatious elegance seem to appeal to a part of the Viennese people, which is amazing. Vienna has a certain darkness in its air, a hint of sarcasm and morbidity that sticks with people. This is the one thing, the atmosphere of Vienna. The other thing is the coexistence of high and low, the presence of arts, culture and history and the youngster pop and party culture.” (from an Interview to be found >> here.)

Slovak Fashion Night will also feature Slovak designers Slavomira Vlasova with her collection “Moments of Life“; Silvia Kissova and Filip Placko with their collection “Spirit of Space,” inspired by New York’s Chrysler Building. Maria Stranekova’s collection “Eternity” accentuates the uniqueness of human existence and feminine beauty, in tandem with the „Newintage” collection by “Czechdesign”, a collective of Czech students from the Tomas Bata University in Zlin.
