Gerald Matt takes his monthly TV talk with outstanding personalities from the culture and the arts on tour, starting with New York City. Join us for this exciting debut on-the-road show presented by the Austrian Cultural Forum New York, where on two consecutive nights, the one-to-one interviews with Jeffrey Deitch, Michael Kimmelmann, Shirin Neshat, and Michael Orthofer will be recorded. The talks will be aired on W24 Television in 2017.
On this first night, Gerald Matt will interview The New York Times longtime chief art critic Michael Kimmelman and artist Shirin Neshat.

ABOUT THE INTERVIEWER
Gerald Mattis an Austrian curator, author, and director of the Vienna Art Institute. He is an associate professor at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and the CIAM (Center of International Art Management) in Cologne, where he teaches museum and exhibition management. He also lectures art theory at the Institute of Art History at the University of Innsbruck. From 1996 to 2012 Matt was the director of Kunsthalle Vienna, where he organized dozens of groundbreaking Shows of artists including Edward Hopper, Bruce Nauman, Louise Bourgeois, and Matthew Barney, collaborating with the Centre Pompidou, the Guggenheim Museum and many others. He is the author of many books, among which “Artist talk” (2014); “Gespräche, Austrian Art in the 60ies” (2011), “Economia e gestione di musei d’arte” with Alessia Zorloni (2001, “Kultura i pieniadze, Zarzadzanie muzeum” (2005), “Kommentare zu Kunst, Kultur und Politik” (2006), and “Kunst und Geld, Das Museum, ein Unternehmen” (2001).
ABOUT THE INTERVIEWEES
Shirin Neshat is an Iranian visual artist who lives in New York and is primarily known for her work in film, video, and photography. Her artwork centers on the contrasts between Islam and the West, femininity and masculinity, public life and private life, antiquity and modernity, and bridging the spaces between these subjects.
She received the International Award of the XLVII Vencice Biennale in 1999, the Silver Lion fot best director at the 66th Venice Film Festival in 2009, and was named Artist of the Decade by Huffington Post. Neshat´s earliest works were photographs, such as the Unveiling (1993) and Women of Allah (1993-97) series-portraits of women entirely overlaid by Persian Calligraphy, which explore notions of femininity in relation to Islamic fundamentalism and militancy in her home country. She directed several videos, among them Anchorage (1996), Shadow under the Web (1997), Turbulent (1998), Rapture (1999), and Soliloquy (1999). Her works were exhibited in leading museums in New York, Vienna, Mexico City, Turin, Chicago, London, Berlin, etc.
Michael Kimmelman is an American author, critic, columnist, and pianist. He is the architecture critic for The New York Times and has written on issues of public housing, public space, infrastructure, community development, and social responsibility. He was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 2000 and 2014 and he was awarded the 2014 Brendan Gill Prize for his “insightful candor and continuous scrutiny of New York´s architectural environment”. For the 2015 review of the Whitney Museum, he won the Punch Sulzberger Award. Kimmelman has been The New York Times’ longtime chief art critic. In 2007 as a foreign correspondent based in Berlin, Kimmelman created the Abroad Column covering culture, political and social affairs across Europe. Having returned to New York in 2011, his articles have helped to reshape policy and the public debate about urbanism and architecture. Kimmelman is the author of Portraits and The Accidental Masterpiece.
