TRIBUTE | Tribute to Raimund Abraham (1933 – 2010)
The galleries at the Austrian Cultural Forum New York have been emptied to honor the memory of our architect. The newly subtitled film “Architecture for Manhattan / Raimund Abraham’s Austrian Cultural Forum“, by Doris Fercher, co-produced and co-presented by 3sat and the ORF, will be shown in the gallery until May 17.
The architect, artist, teacher and theorist was born in 1933 in Lienz, Tyrol. He studied at the Technische Universität Graz from 1952-1958, emigrated from Austria to the United States in 1964 and taught at the Cooper Union, the Pratt Institute and at the Southern California Institute of Architecture. In 2008 he also participated in the ACF Show “Under Pain Of Death” with his drawing “The Long Drop”.
Raimund Abraham dedicated ten years of his life to the construction of the Austrian Cultural Forum from 1992 to 2002. With the stunning design of the ACF Building, he has not only shaped the New York Skyline, but also the way Austria has come to understand itself as a nation of contemporary creativity.
