YELA IN CONCERT FT. NYC – THIS IS US

Yela, also known as Daniela Bauer, blends the sounds and rhythms of her upbringing in her songs. Her writing may lean towards that of singer-songwriter, but she weaves in rhythms of her African heritage and loves to use percussive elements in her playing.
If the three main building blocks of music consist of Melody, Harmony and Rhythm, then Rhythm is the least complex in popular American/European music. But a variety of music from the African diaspora have a heavy emphasis on the rhythmic element. Yela’s intention is to bring more gravity towards rhythmic feel as well, whilst still being true to the traditional song-form of the tradition of the great singer-songwriters.Part of the program will also include a special live premiere of music from NYC – This is Us, a two-part collaborative music video project between Austrian musicians based in the New York area, focusing on first-hand impressions from NYC during the peak of its COVID-19 crisis and the months to follow. This concert will feature Peter Traunmüller (piano), Peter Kronreif (drums), Stephan Kondert (bass), Dennis Brandner (sax), Matthias Löscher (electric guitar). ABOUT THE MUSICIAN
Singer-Songwriter Yela was born to an Austrian father and a Zimbabwean mother in Vienna, Austria, and currently lives in New York City. She received a scholarship from the Berklee School of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. While at Berklee she continued to work with internationally acclaimed musicians and producers, such as Rodney Hunter (G-Stone Recordings), Stereotyp (G-Stone Recordings), Dzihan & Kamien (Couch Records), and Café Drechsler, Thomas Rabitsch, and Waxolutionists and toured throughout Europe in the summers. She sang background vocals for Grammy-nominated soul singer Musiq Soulchild, and acclaimed German soul singer Joy Denalane, and has worked with US musicians/producers Kelo Saunders and Chris Sholar, to name a few. Yela co-wrote for the Austrian submission to the Eurovision song contest “Feels like home”.INSTAGRAM
